In the red corner (AFC) the Patriots are up first. Tom Brady and chums absolutely schooled Tebow and his Broncos last week. The pragmatic, machine like consistency of Brady was too much for Denver's defense.
Plenty of neutrals were rooting for Tebow, as the romantic, unorthodox whirligig, but the Patriot's defense was ready for his shenanigans with two of his trademark obvious plays: the option and the inside handoff. The Tebow deep ball was never a threat despite the Patriots harbouring a very shaky secondary.
This was a walk in the park for Brady who notched up a whopping six TDs, Tebow only had nine completions. Tebow has faced the Patriots twice this season and twice he has been left with everyone seeing a vast difference between the two. Sure Tebow has plenty of fight, and I like watching him play, but this was man against boy for 60 minutes.
Meanwhile the Ravens edged out a win over the Texans. The Ravens thanked their lucky stars the week before that their nemesis the Pittsburgh Steelers had already bailed out of the playoffs by the hands of Tebow, and possibly his friend, Jesus. Had the Steelers have won that game and then knocked off the Pats which they could have done, the Ravens would be facing their old enemy and in the past the Steelers always win this one. The Ravens will not have a better opportunity.
Yet they were not very convincing over the Texans. Rookie QB, T.J Yates had a poor day throwing three interceptions which really killed them. Arian Foster had a monster day, and the Texan's defense played very well. Joe Flacco and Ray Rice had quiet days and the Ravens relied on their defense.
I'm not so sure that the Ravens will be able to stop the Patriots as much, and the boy from Baltimore have to expose the Patriots secondary if they want to play in the big dance. I think this game is going to be won here, and I can't see the Patriots messing up. If they end up playing a shootout game, then there is no one better than the Patriots.
The New England crew are warming up well, though they do have a habit of starting games slowly this year. Their double TE combo of Gronkowski and Hernandez has been a nightmare for defenses all season. Then there is Wes Welker, and Ochocinco. Their run game is weak, but who cares when you have Brady back there and a defensive genius for a head coach.
I predict a Patriots win: 24-13
